Who Needs Trading Spaces?

My home has been a wearhouse for couches, desks and tables the past two weeks. Between my older sister redecorating her apartment and my brother moving into his new home with his fiancé, I can’t keep straight whose furniture is whose! My parents took the weekend to help my sister redecorate and I just had to share the before and after.

Here is her old space:

This was her kitchen table.

The kitchen table sat between the front door and pantry.

A corner window sits to the left of the stove.

One of the bedrooms opens to the living room.

The brown sofa was the main attraction in the living room.

After a few trips to the store, a can of paint and a Mother’s touch here is what she got:

The new couch and simple accents brought so much light to the space!

(You’ll have to ignore the strange effect the panoramic picture had on my dads body here!)

This table works great for the narrow space.

This shower curtain makes a statement without overwhelming the space.

We reused an old chest for a coffee table and used the green chair to work in the accent color next to the patterned sofa.

The only purchased items are the sofa, table runner, coffee tray and shower curtain. Those were found at HomeGoods, our favorite place, or on craigslist. Everything else came from our basement in Ohio! Isn’t it amazing how the simplest changes can make the biggest difference in a room? Congratulations to my sister on her official big girl apartment and the best of luck with her new roommate!

  1. love your blog….yes a labour of love and a lot of elbow grease 🙂 correction…. the couch was existing. we just switched out the cover with a new one from ikea( thanks to the gma!!)

it is a much happier space ~ the mother with the touch.

  2. The green chair was originally yellow, then blue, and now green. It was purchased at a vintage market for $40. Shower curtain was also from ikea! Shelves were acquired with no charge from an old employer who no longer needed them and were originally a yellow color. Lots of amazing stuff and a much happier home for me!
